The application of light energy to areas of the body to help stimulate healing. Laser light is different than 'normal' light due to it being of a single wavelength and being focused; it is often referred to as a 'low-level' laser as opposed to a surgical or "hot" laser. The wavelength influences the biological effects of the laser; there are some wavelengths that are better for pain, some are better for inflammation while others help with skin lesions.
The most common reasons for therapeutic laser therapy include muscular sprain/strain, osteoarthritis, post-op around incisions and wounds (to stimulate and accelerate healing) and any instance where the pet is experiencing musculoskeletal pain.
Photo biomodulation (the laser-tissue interaction) effects the body's cells with the most significant interaction helping reduce pain and enhance the healing by increasing microcirculation, stimulating cellular activity and increasing growth factors.
All patients are required to book a consult with a DVM prior to scheduling a laser session.
